AWS vs Azure vs GCP
Cloud Computing has become vital in IT profession since its inception. It is no longer a question to opt or not for cloud computing; the question is which clout platform should go for. With cloud computing market is flooding with numerous cloud providers, AZURE, AWS, and Google cloud platform, which stand for the top three cloud providers.
AZURE Vs AWS Vs Google cloud: Establishment
Amazon Web Services
AWS is a subsidiary of amazon.com, which provides the cloud computing platform on-demand to governments, companies, and individuals on a paid-subscription basis.
AWS is the oldest and experienced player in the market. As it is one of the oldest cloud providers, it has established a more significant trust, as well as user base and reliability factor.
AWS was publicly was launched in 2006 with services offering such as Amazon S3, EC2 (Elastic Compute cloud, etc. and by 2009 Elastic block store (EBS) was made public and services such as content delivery network, Amazon cloud front, and more formally joined the AWS cloud computing services offering.
Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure is mostly called Azure was launched in 2010 with the intent to provide a competent cloud computing platform for business. It was renamed to Microsoft Azure in 2014 though the name Azure name is still commonly used. Since its inception, Azure has shown a significant progress among its competitors.
Microsoft Azure is most robust in SaaS. If you are an enterprise customer, Microsoft will speak your language, and few companies have the enterprise background as Microsoft.
Google Cloud Platform
Google offers a Google cloud platform. It is also a cloud computing service that runs on the same infrastructure for which Google uses internally for its end-users products such as YouTube, Google search engine, etc.
It started its journey in 2011, and in less time, it has managed to create a good presence in the cloud market. The main motive of Google Cloud was to strengthen Google’s own products, such as Google search engine or YouTube. It entered the cloud market latter and didn’t have the enterprise focus initially. But its technical expertise is profound, and its industry-leading tools in machine learning, data analytics, and deep learning and artificial intelligence are significant advantages.
AWS Vs AZURE Vs GCP: Availability Zones
It has already established that AWS was the first in the cloud domain which means that they have more time to expand and develop their networks. So It is hosting in multiple locations worldwide. GCP and AZURE are also hosting in numerous locations across the globe, but the difference lie in the number of respective availability zones.
1. AWS has 66 availability zones with 12 are also on the way
2. AZURE has 54 regions worldwide and is available in 140 countries all over the world
3. GCP has been made available in 20 regions all around the world, and 3 are more to come.
AWS Vs AZURE Vs GCP: Market Share and Growth Rate
In the cloud market, AWS has been at the top for a long time.
· AWS is leading 30% of public cloud share on its name
· Azure is in the second place, owing 16% of the market share worldwide
· Google in third place as it owns 10% of the worldwide market share.
Even though GCP and Azure are lagging behind AWS when it comes to the market share, they have shown a good growth rate. In 2019 GCP has shown a growth rate of 83% while AWS with 41% of the growth rate and Azure has demonstrated 75% growth rate.
Since AWS is the most mature player in the cloud industry, it has a bigger user base and community support. SO AWS has more well-known and high-profile customers like Netflix, Unilever, BMW, Airbnb, Samsung, MI, etc.
Microsoft Azure is also gaining its share of high profile customers with the time. As of now, it has almost 80% of fortune 500 companies as its customers. Some of its major customers are Polycom, Controls, HP, Honeywell, Fujifilm, Apple, etc.
On the other hand, Google shares the same infrastructure as that of Google search engine and YouTube, and that helped to gain the faith of many high-end companies have put their faith in Google cloud. Major clients of Google Cloud are PayPal, HSBC, Bloomberg, Dominos, 20th century Fox and many more.
All cloud providers offer various cloud computing services that are required for any underlying business. The difference accurses in the number of services.
Overall Pros and Cons
AWS cons and pros
Amazon’s largest strength is its dominance in the public cloud market. As its magic Quadrant for cloud infrastructure as a service, worldwide, Gartner noted, AWS is the most significant market share leader in the cloud, last for 10years.
The biggest reason for its popularity is undoubtedly the massive scope of its operation. AWS has a growing and huge array of available services, as well as the most comprehensive network of worldwide data centers.
AWS's most considerable weakness is related to the cost. As it regularly lowers its prices, many enterprises find it challenging to understand the cost of the company and how to manage those costs effectively when running a high volume of workload on the services.
AZURE Pros and Cons
Microsoft may come late to the market but gave itself a good start by essentially taking its software- Windows server, office, SQL Server, Dynamic Active Directory, Sharepoint, etc. – and repurposing it for the cloud.
The most significant reason for its success is that so many enterprises deploy Windows and other Microsoft software. Microsoft Azure is tightly integrated with these different applications, enterprises which use mostly Microsoft software often find themselves more comfortable with Azure. This builds loyalty for Microsoft customers.
On the con side of the AZURE, Gartner finds fault with some of the platform’s imperfections. While it is an enterprise-ready platform, Gartner clients report that the service experience feels less enterprise-ready than they expected.
GCP Pros and Cons
Google has a strong offering in containers since it has developed the Kubernetes standard that AZURE and AWS now offer. GCP is specialized in high compute offerings like analytics, machine learning, and Big Data
On the con side, Google is a distant third in market share, perhaps because it doesn’t offer a number of different services and features as AWS and AZURE. It also doesn’t have near as many global data centers as AZURE and AWS.
